Off Duty Summer Style

Posted on May 26 2017

While summer is definitely about the sun and your favorite pair of shorts; on behalf of WRITTEN Apparel, I’d like to encourage you to redefine your summer look; after all, the WRITTEN Woman doesn’t do what everyone else is doing.

What do I mean by redefine? Don’t worry, I’m not talking about a major overhaul…simply suggesting looking at your wardrobe differently. I’ll share a secret with you that I’ve learned while interning at WRITTEN Apparel: the biggest secret about the pencil skirt is that it will actually filter with your lifestyle! That’s right, it’s incredibly versatile.

Now don’t get me wrong, there’s no doubt about it that pencil skirts are a workwear must and I know the WRITTEN Woman works Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall…but what about those occasional days off? Off duty doesn’t have to mean yoga pants and t-shirts all the time, and summer weather doesn’t have to mean shorts and tank tops.

When thinking of summer, everyone thinks of denim. It’s cotton based which makes it comfortable and easy to wear. The problem is, when thinking of denim, everyone thinks casual. This is where WRITTEN was creative and combined the two concepts in the design of the Naomi pencil skirt (if I do say so myself). With the Naomi style being a pencil skirt, it offers a certain level of sophistication that even your most premium denim shorts just don’t have and with Naomi being designed from a lightweight laced stretch denim, you find the comfort you know and love from blue jeans. You see…it doesn’t have to be “either/or”, you can have it all. What more could you ask for in a summer staple?

The WRITTEN pencil skirt was designed for any occasion and that includes off duty and summer. Let me share with you a few tips and tricks I’ve found to achieving a comfortable off duty look for whatever your summer entails.

Summer Concert Goer

Let your hair down and wear your favorite pencil skirt to the next summer concert you’re headed to. In this look, the Naomi pencil skirt was paired with a basic white t-shirt, a laced kimono, comfortable sandals with grommet detailing, and multi-toned shades.

The kimono adds a layer of interest over the basic t-shirt and the lace detailing pulls in the same lace look from the skirt. The skirt is long enough to sit comfortably in without giving your own show and the sandals are easy to walk in through a grassy or uneven setting.

Brunch With The Girls

Gingham is a huge trend this summer. For a brunch outing with your favorite company, try something a little more trendy. The Naomi pencil skirt was paired with a tiered sleeve gingham blouse that plays well off the color palette of the skirt. An open-toed block heel is a nice alternative from the typical closed toed stiletto, as well.

Running Errands

They’re never anyone’s idea of a good time, but life dictates they must be done…errands. On those days where you just have to get shit done, try pairing your pencil skirt with a comfortable pair of clean white sneakers and a t-shirt. In this look a mustard colored bib style top was added to contrast with the blues found in the skirt.

Farmers Market Fashionista

Denim on denim…the ultimate statement of casual comfort. The Naomi pencil skirt is paired with a floral printed lightweight peplum and destructed denim jacket. Birkenstock style sandals finish the look for a laid back day of browsing your favorite maker stands.

I’ve given you the inspiration. This summer, play up your closet and create your own looks that tell the story of your everyday life.
